How Can You Help the Town Hall?
When we think of Charities, it tends to be  the big organisations, Oxfam, Save The Children,  RSPCA etc. All of them worthy causes of course. Almost everyone in Grassington and Upper Wharfedale has been to the Town Hall at one time or another, but not everyone is aware that 'Grassington Devonshire Institute', the organisation which operates the Town Hall,    is a Charity, run by unpaid Trustees to provide a multifunctional facility at the heart of the community.

Every penny of the £30,000 it needs to keep its doors open each year is raised by hiring out rooms for events, weddings, classes etc and putting on its own events e.g. live music, theatre performances and of course the Christmas Market. So how can YOU help?

Volunteer
Our volunteers allow us to put on fund raising events and community events. We have a team of "regulars", who always lend a hand but we are always on the look out for more people. Particularly at Dickensian, and for large events but also throughout the year to help with our highly successful lunch club, or at our Opera, Ballet and Shakespeare nights for example. Volunteering is generally a lot of fun and you get to meet lots of people either customers or other volunteers. You don't need to commit to anything but it would be great if you would fill in the form below so that we can contact you in the future.

Become a Town Hall "Friend"
Our "Friends" are people with a particular skill they would like to share on an ad hoc basis.  At the moment, we have the ability to call on Sound and Lighting Engineers, Projectionists, Catering and Bar Staff,  but would welcome other skillsets, if you have a particular talent we would love to hear from you. We are currently looking for specialist help with website design/management, events management and fund raising co-ordination.

Become a Trustee
Those people who have a little more time to offer or indeed who wish to become more involved in the "business" side of the charity may consider becoming Trustees. Trustees must be 'members' and each is expected to play a part in planning and transacting the business of the Town Hall. There are normally 11 meetings per annum but much of the time commitment beyond that is in actually participating in the planning, set up, running and take down of the events programme, which runs throughout the year.

Become a Member
Members are our lifeblood. Becoming a member demonstrates an interest in the future of the Town Hall as an asset for the community. Without the Town Hall and without  the various community groups and charities which run a diverse set of events and activities throughout the year, local people would  be forced to find their entertainment much wider afield, requiring transport and potentially hotel accommodation to be factored into an evening's entertainment. Membership has been set at the extremely modest sum of £24 per annum and there are significant benefits to those who subscribe
(Click Here to see our Membership page and application form).

Join Our Prize Draw
Whilst all members are automatically included in our monthly prize draw, those people who do not reside within the 'Membership area'  can still subscribe. The rate is the same as for membership, but every penny raised contributes to the maintenance and development of the Town Hall and to the establishment of its events and activities.

Donate
Occasionally, we have launched specific fund-raising campaigns, designed to encourage individuals (and organisations) to donate. In recent times, this method of fund-raising has been particularly successful in providing new seating in the Octagon Theatre and new curtains in the Main Hall. Donations, supported by Gift Aid contributions, provide valuable additional support to our normal room hiring and events programme fund-raising activities.

Make a Bequest
The existence of the Town Hall at the centre of Dales life for 150 years has touched many lives and there have been many, many memorable times in the building, in the company of good friends and family. Bequests can be a great way to offer support to the Town Hall and serve to create a lasting memory of good times.
